Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis of Flow Patterns, Pressure Drop, and Heat Transfer Coefficient in Staggered and Inline Shell-Tube Heat Exchangers

In this numerical study, the heat transfer performance of shell-and-tube exchangers (STHXs) has been compared for two different tube arrangements. STHX having 21 and 24 tubes arranged in inline staggered grid considered analysis. Shell-and-tube exchanger with arrangement observed to provide lesser thermal stratification as arrangement. Further, study variation mass flow rate shell-side fluid constant tube-side conducted structure STHX. The shell side varied from 0.1 kg/s 0.5 kg/s, respectively, keeping at 0.25 kg/s. influence bulk mass-influx on efficiency, effectiveness, pressure drop shell-tube analyzed. CFD results were analytical solutions, it shows a good agreement between them. It that is minimum outlet temperatures have predicted be 40.94°C 63.63°C, respectively.
